EDITORS’ INTRODUCTION
It is gratifying to observe that psychological counseling units are increasingly coming into service at universities of our country. Although, this number does not increase parallel to the increase in number of universities, it could be noted that a certain threshold had already been exceeded. A growing demand for psychological services on one hand and a growing number of administrators who perceive the importance of these services on the other facilitate the launching of psychological counseling units than earlier times. Nevertheless, establishing psychological counseling units, in each and every university, having the capacity to offer services at international standards entail a number of requirements. These requirements include dynamic definitions of roles and functions of psychological counseling units within the framework of practically applicable by-laws and regulations specifically tailored to suit these units.
“II. Symposium of Psychological Counseling and Guidance at Universities” is itself a significant sign that these basic needs are being thoroughly felt. In this sense, it is important for this Symposium to be owned by all psychological counseling experts at universities. The development of this field is possible only by keeping away from dysfunctional quarrels. It should never be disregarded that a combination of recognized expertise and supervised experience composes both the necessary and the sufficient condition for being able to offer psychological services. There are infinitely rich research and application opportunities in universities waiting for experts. Research in and application of psychological services within the context of universities would contribute significantly to self- evaluations of the field itself as well as and interrelationships between fields working on close domains.
2nd Symposium of Psychological Counseling and Guidance at Universities Abstracts Book is a first attempt to respond to the needs rapidly emerging in this area. We wish you deem the delay in preparation of this Proceedings is an indication of inherent difficulties frequently encountered during the process of institutionalization of which this area encounters. We hope that this book would pioneer to transform work in this area into a common ground of experience and sharing.
The present book include both Turkish and English versions of presentations in order to facilitate access and contact by international networks. We find it important to follow international standards in a field devoting itself to produce and provide services at high standards.
We are pleased to express our indebtedness to several people. The experts in Koç University Psychological Counseling Services Unit; Pelin Çetinkaya, Meltem Aydoğdu, and Sevil Taner assumed a mission by initiating this Symposium and helped it to become a common ground for us all under the designation of “Istanbul Psychological Counseling and Guidance Days”. Sabancı University Individual Counseling Center aspired to expand this ground and continue the mission. In this sense, we are thankful to Munire Arıkol, Director of Center for the Individual and Academic Development at the time of the Symposium. We must not skip mentioning valuable contributions of Individual Counseling Center members; Assoc. Prof. Meral Çulha, Çağla Gülol (PhD), and Yudit Namer (PhD candidate). We also express our thanks to then administrative assistant Neşe Aktuğ and assistant students for their invaluable help at every step of the organization of this Symposium. The steering committee deserves special thanks for their pioneer endeavor. Finally, we should express our thanks to all Symposium participants who showed their diligent motivation.
In the long run, we aim to sustain an uninterrupted continuation of this Symposium. We hope and wish that in the forthcoming years this Symposium will expand and develop in terms of scope and content, giving way to institutionalization of this field, to become an autonomous area of research and application.

EDİTÖRLERİN SUNUŞU
Ülkemiz üniversitelerinde giderek artan sayıda psikolojik hizmet birimlerinin kurulduğunu görmek sevindiricidir. Her ne kadar bu sayı üniversite sayısındaki artışa paralel yükselmiyorsa da belirli bir eşiğin aşılmış olduğu söylenebilir. Bir yandan psikolojik hizmetlere yönelik talebin çoğalması diğer yandan bu hizmetlerin önemini kavrayabilen yöneticilerin ortaya çıkması psikolojik danışmanlık birimlerinin (PDM) kurulmasını ve hizmet sunmasını kolaylaştırmaktadır. Öte yandan uluslararası standartlarda hizmet sunma kapasitesine sahip PDM’lerin her üniversitede kurulması PDM’lerin rol ve işlevlerinin dinamik bir tanıma kavuşmasına ve özgün özelliklerine uygun düzenlemelerin hayata geçirilmesine bağlıdır.
“Üniversitelerde Psikolojik Danışmanlık ve Rehberlik Sempozyumu” bu ihtiyaçların iyice hissedilmekte olduğunun bir işaretidir. Bu Sempozyumun üniversitelerde psikolojik hizmet sunan tüm uzmanlar tarafından sahiplenilmesi önemlidir. İşlevsiz çekişmelerin psikolojik hizmet alanından uzak tutulması bu alanın gelişmesinin ilk şartıdır. Gerekli ve yeterli olanın uzmanlık eğitimi ve denetimli deneyim olduğu hiçbir zaman unutulmamalıdır. Üniversitelerde uzmanlar için zengin araştırma ve uygulama fırsatları vardır. Üniversitede psikolojik hizmetler kapsamında yapılacak araştırma ve uygulamalar hem bu alanın hem de yakın çalışmalarda bulunan diğer disiplinlerin kendi öz değerlendirmelerine ve karşılıklı ilişkilerine çok önemli katkı sağlayacaktır.
II. Üniversitelerde Psikolojik Danışma ve Rehberlik Sempozyumu Özet Bildiriler Kitabı bu alanda beliren ihtiyaçları karşılamaya yönelik bir ilk adım niteliğindedir. Elinizdeki kitabın uzun sayılabilecek bir gecikmeyle hazırlanmış olmasını, bu alanın kendine özgü kurumsallaşma zorluklarının bir işareti olarak değerlendirmenizi temenni ediyoruz. Umuyor ve diliyoruz ki bu kitap bundan sonra bu alanda yapılacak çalışmaları ortak bir deneyim birikimine dönüştürmeye öncülük eder.
Sempozyum Bildiriler Kitabı, uluslararası düzlemlerde tarama ve takip kolaylığı sağlamak amacıyla çalışmaların hem Türkçe hem de İngilizce özetlerini barındırmaktadır. Uluslararası standartlarda hizmet üretme ve sunması beklenen bir alanda ilk çalışmalardan başlayarak bu standartlara uygun davranma gayretini önemsiyoruz.
Sempozyuma öncülük eden ve bu ortak zemini ilk olarak “Üniversitelerde Psikolojik Danışmanlık ve Rehberlik Günleri” olarak düzenleyen Koç Üniversitesi Psikolojik Danışmanlık Birimi uzmanları Pelin Çetinkaya, Meltem Aydoğdu, ve Sevil Taner önemli bir misyon başlatmıştır. Sabancı Üniversitesi Bireysel Danışmanlık Birimi de bu zemini geliştirmeyi ve misyonu sürdürmeyi amaçlamıştır. Bu çerçevede, Sempozyumun düzenlendiği tarihte Sabancı Üniversitesi Bireysel ve Akademik Gelişim Merkezi (BAGEM) Direktörü Münire Arıkol’a şükran borçluyuz. Üyelerimiz Doç. Dr. Meral Çulha, Dr. Çağla Gülol, ve Uzm.Psk. Yudit Namer’in çok önemli katkılarını anmadan geçmemeliyiz. Düzenlemenin her aşamasında özverili desteğini sunan, dönemin BAGEM İdari Asistanı Neşe Aktuğ’a ve öğrenci asistanlarımıza da teşekkür ediyoruz. Hedefimiz bu Sempozyumun sürekliliğinin sağlanmasıdır. Diliyor ve umuyoruz ki önümüzdeki yıllarda Sempozyum gerek kapsam gerek içerik olarak gelişecek, genişleyecek ve bu alanın özerk bir çalışma alanı olarak kurumsallaşmasının yolunu açacaktır.
